WhatsApp Backup Stuck at 99%? How to Fix It
If your WhatsApp backup is stuck at 99%, it usually happens due to network issues, storage problems, app glitches, or outdated software. Follow these steps to fix it and complete your backup successfully.
1. Check Internet Connection
A stable internet connection is required for backup.
- Use a reliable Wi-Fi network
- Restart your router if necessary
- Disable VPN if connected
2. Check Available Storage
Insufficient device or Google Drive/iCloud storage can prevent backup.
- Check phone storage and free up space if low
- Check Google Drive (Android) or iCloud (iPhone) storage
- Delete unnecessary files if needed
3. Restart WhatsApp
Sometimes restarting the app fixes minor glitches.
- Close WhatsApp completely
- Open it again and retry backup
4. Update WhatsApp
Using an outdated version can cause backup issues.
- Go to Google Play Store or App Store
- Check for updates and install
5. Check Google Account / iCloud Account
Ensure the account used for backup is active and logged in.
- Android: Settings → Accounts → Google → Verify account
- iPhone: Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Verify account
6. Clear Cache (Android Only)
Cache buildup can block backup.
- Settings → Apps → WhatsApp → Storage → Clear Cache
7. Retry Backup Manually
Instead of automatic backup, start manually.
- Open WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Chat Backup → Back Up Now
8. Check for Large Media Files
Very large videos or documents may slow backup.
- Temporarily move large files out of WhatsApp folder
- Retry backup
9. Reinstall WhatsApp (Last Option)
If nothing works, reinstall the app. Backup chat history first if possible.
- Uninstall WhatsApp
- Reinstall from Play Store / App Store
- Restore backup when prompted
When to Contact Support
If backup still fails after all steps, contact WhatsApp support or check Google Drive/iCloud support for account-related issues.
